Rivera Rockcrusher line out level affects tone massively?

the Rockcrusher and my amp. It should work right in the Rockcrusher. I thought mine was broken. I agree that it sounds better at more moderate levels on the RC. @PatF Direct monitoring is off. I used it with my input set on line, will try it on instrument. FWIW the output impedance of the Rockcrusher is 560 Ohms.

I went with a used Alex attenuator over the rockcrusher, mainly due to price, since I could never find a used rockcrusher, likely since they are good and haven't been out as long. I have only heard of a few complaints on the rockcrusher, one being that the attenuation steps are too big of gaps, they wish they were 3dB instead of 4dB steps.
